Tutorial Guides: Entry #4d

⇐ Tutorial 1 Part 3: 職業選択の自由
Tutorial 1 Part 5: 師弟とは?

So you want like to collect items, turn them into useful products and then wear them with pride or sell them for profit? That's roughly what a Backpacker is, thought "turn them into useful products" part is more applicable to the Tatarabe and the Farmer than the Ranger or Merchant. But whatever.

In any case, to become a Backpacker, the procedure is actually very simple:

1. Talk to the guildmaster.
2. For Tatarabe, Farmers and Rangers, you'll be asked to bring an item to the guildmaster. For Merchants, you'll be running errands between Uptown and Downtown.
3. Report back to the guildmaster.
4. Affirm that you are ready for job change. You must be absolutely naked for this step. If not, you'll be asked to strip before speaking to the guildmaster again.
5. Voila! You're one of us now, fuhuhuhuhuhu~
6. Re-equip yourself and talk to the guildmaster for a small gift.

Unlike Fighters and Spellusers, becoming a Backpacker has no stat pre-requisites. Emils do get an early advantage over the other races though, as most of the backpacks available can only be equipped by them (those that come with the lv 99 2nd job armors and the 3rd job armors don't have this disadvantage though).

To make things simpler, I have stripped my characters before reporting, so that I can complete the Job Change in one smooth flow after the report. Whether you want to do the same or not is up to you =3.

Note: Remember to report back to Joker Bro after you're done changing your Job. In fact, the system will remind you again when you're leaving the Guild Palace or either Cathedral after your Job Change before teleporting you to DT. After your report, Joker Bro will gift you with Base Experience Enhancer 50 (Beginner) (経験値ふえ~る 50 (ビギナー)) and a Tiny's Secret Storage Technique (Beginner) (タイニー秘伝収納術(ビギナー)).

[B01] Tatarabe

Step 1: Go to the Tatarabe Guild (Guild Palace 3F, west room):

Step 2: Speak to the Tatarabe Master. Choose option #1 (タタラベ」になりたい!) to apply for Job Change:

You will be asked to bring three of a certain item (鉄の●●●) to him. Choose option #1 (はい) to accept:

Note: For people who already know what this item is and have have the required amount with you, then skip to Step 5. If not, carry on with the following steps.

Step 3: Go to Downtown and speak to Tatarabe Bro (タタラベのお兄さん):

If you have completed the pre-job change tutorial (as you should have), Tatarabe Bro will give you three Metallic Stones (金属の混じった石) which can be refined into the items you'll need: Iron Nuggets (鉄のナゲット)

Because the Metallic Stones are pretty heavy (23 Weight /20 Capacity each), you'll be asked to prepare some space for them if you haven't. Once you're ready, talk to Tatarabe Bro again and choose option #1 (大丈夫!) to receive the stones:

Note: If you had skipped the pre-job change tutorial, you'll be asked to bring three Wooden Boxes (木箱) to exchange for the Metallic Stones instead. You can get them from Wooden Box 1 (木箱1) found in any of Acronia Fields.

Step 4: Take your Metallic Stones to the Refinery (鉄火場) at the southern edge of Downtown (the shop on the left under the hammer and tongs sign).

Speak to the Refinery Employee and choose option #3 (金属を精錬してもらう):

From there, choose the following recipe, set the amount to "3個" and click "OK". You'll need to pay 100G everytime you do this, so do have the money ready and get all three done in one shot:

Step 5: Bring your Iron Nuggets to the Tatarabe Master. He will congratulate you on getting the right answer and then ask again if you're really sure about becoming one of them. Choose option #1 (タタラベになるよ!) to confirm:

Step 6: Upon Job Change, you'll be taught the Tatarabe's starting skill, Ore Knowledge (鉱石知識). With this, the Navigation Window will close as well, marking the end of the event. Re-equip yourself and speak to the Tatarabe Master again. You'll receive two items:
- Tatarabe's Bandana (タタラベのバンダナ): Headgear, gives +2 VIT, -1 MAG, +5 Critical. Includes Passive skill "Intense Heat Shield Effect" (reduces HP drain in lava-hot maps like South Dungeon 2F/3F and Malchut Dock from -3HP/5sec to -2HP/5sec);
Tatara Furnace (タタラ炉): Tool, needed in many metal refining and armor/weapon recipes:

Step 5: Once you're done here, speak to Curry again, choosing the same option as above. He'll then ask if you now know what is the item you're tasked to find. Choose option #1 (見せる) to show him that you do:

After that, if you would like him to send you back to the Guild Palace, choose option #1 (お願いします) to accept his offer:

Step 6: Speak to the Farmer Master with your Ears of Giant Wheat. He will congratulate you on getting it right and then ask again if you're really sure about becoming one of them. Choose option #1 (ファーマーになるべー!) to confirm:

Step 7: Upon Job Change, you'll be taught the Farmer's starting skill, Cultivation (栽培). With this, the Navigation Window will close as well, marking the end of the event. Re-equip yourself and speak to the Farmer Master again. You'll receive two items from him:
(Farmer's) Flower (お花): Chest accessory;
Cloth Ribbon (コットンリボン): Crafting material. You can make yourself a Straw Hat (麦わら帽子) for yourself with the Ribbon and the two Ears of Giant Wheat, either through the Seamstress' Tailoring service or by using the Tailoring skill yourself. Now you can be both a Farmer and the Pirate King!

He'll inform you that the mystery item is in fact the Bones () that drop from Bawoos:

What you need...

And the ones that shall die for that need.

Step 5: Fight Bawoos until you get two Bones from them. Bawoos are aggressive monsters so be careful not to be mobbed.

Step 6: Once you're done here, speak to Bunota again. He'll ask if you'll like him to send you back to the Guild Palace. Choose option #1 (お願いします) to accept his offer:

Step 7: Go back to the Ranger Guild with the Bones and report to the Ranger Master (you might want to strip off all your equipment before talking to him). After congratulating on a job well-done, you'll be asked whether to go on with the Job Change. Choose option #1 (はい) if you're ready:

Step 8: Upon Job Change, you'll be taught the Ranger's starting skill, Bivouac (ビバーク). With this, the Navigation Window will close as well, marking the end of the event. The NPCs are numbered with U (for Uptown) or D (for Downtown) and their locations can be found on the mini map in the screenshots. After visiting each NPC, remember to return to the Old Man before heading over to the next person. So the sequence will be something like this: Old Man -> NPC #1 -> Old Man -> NPC #2.... and so on.
